On this private tuk-tuk tour of Funchal, we'll enjoy scenic viewpoints, gardens, and historic buildings as we take a panoramic tour of Madeira's capital. Are you ready to discover its charm?
After picking you up from your hotel in Funchal, we’ll hop on the electric tuk-tuk to tour the historic center of Madeira’s capital. Let’s get going!
Once in the Old Town, we’ll observe the evolution of the island’s urban planning and its narrow streets, which have adapted to the region’s volcanic topography. We’ll continue to the Socorro and Villa Guida viewpoints, where we’ll enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of Funchal Bay.
Back in the city center, we’ll stop in front of Funchal Cathedral, one of Madeira’s oldest churches, featuring a Mudejar-style cedar wood roof. Did you know that its ceilings were built without a single metal nail?
We’ll continue to the Mercado dos Lavradores, an example of Estado Novo architecture, where we’ll see tile panels depicting scenes of farm life. Next, at the Municipal Square, we’ll admire the façade of City Hall and the former Jesuit College, which played a key role in the island’s cultural development.
Afterward, we’ll explore the São Pedro neighborhood, stopping in front of the Convent of Santa Clara, founded in the 15th century, and at Quinta das Cruzes, a former noble residence linked to the Portuguese discoveries.
Before wrapping up, we’ll pass through the Municipal Garden and Santa Catarina Park, 2 green spaces rich in botanical diversity.
After 1.5 hours, we’ll conclude this private tuk-tuk tour of Funchal by returning to your hotel.
