On this private tour of Montpellier, you'll discover one of the most picturesque cities in France with an exclusive guide just for you, your friends, and family!
At the designated time, we'll meet at the Place de la Comédie in the heart of Montpellier to begin this tour of Montpellier. You'll be immediately immersed in the hustle and bustle of the city center, lined with cafés and theatres. After admiring the Opéra Comédie, a true architectural masterpiece, we'll head to the Tour de la Babote, a vestige of the ancient medieval fortifications.
Your guide will then take you to the Place Saint-Roch, where you can admire a magnificent mural fresco, before moving on to the Church of Saint-Anne, a symbol of the city's religious history. You'll also discover Carré Saint-Anne, a modern art gallery that bridges the gap between the ancient and the contemporary.
Then, we'll stroll through Montpellier's historic center, discovering the stunning Gothic-style Montpellier Cathedral and the Saint-Clément aqueduct, a testament to the hydraulic engineering of the period. You'll walk along the Promenade du Peyrou, an emblematic 17th-century site offering a breathtaking view of the city and the Mediterranean Sea.
As you admire these monuments, the guide will take you back in time to the greatest moments in Montpellier's history: its foundation in the 20th century under the Counts of Toulouse, its key role under the feudal Guilhem dynasty, the medieval period under the Kings of Aragon, and its evolution up to the French Revolution. You'll also learn about the city's quick growth over the past 25 years, the region's famous wine culture, and Montpellier's place in the historic Languedoc region.
