Located in the heart of Béarn, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques region of France, La Commanderie de Lacommande is a 12th-century historical gem and a significant stop on the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route.
This unique site offers an immersive experience, highlighting Béarn's rich heritage through its gastronomy, history, and winemaking traditions. Visitors will feel the spiritual and historical depth as they wander the scenic paths that once served as a refuge for pilgrims, knights, and traders.
During your visit, you can embark on a treasure hunt, following the trail of Gaston IV the Crusader. As you decode secret messages, solve puzzles, and uncover hidden clues, you’ll also learn about the region’s fascinating history.
You’ll also have the chance to explore the Jurançon vineyards and enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The region’s winemaking heritage is on perfect display at a wine-tasting experience at Maisons du Vin, where you can savor the rich flavors of local wines.
One of the most unique experiences at La Commanderie is stepping into the Deaf Room, the only one of its kind in Europe.
