Why Visit Fado Na Baixa?

Designated as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, Fado defies mere words. In this show, you'll learn about the history of fado and enjoy the very essence of this cherished Portuguese musical tradition at Fado Na Baixa, a renowned concert hall nestled in the heart of Porto's historic district.

The 1-hour fado performance begins with an introduction to the roots of traditional fado. It's a journey that uncovers the mysteries and evolution of the Portuguese guitar, an unwavering companion to every fado vocalist.

The show gracefully transitions to an ode to Coimbra, a city that witnessed the birth of the celebrated Coimbra fado in the late 19th century. The fourth segment of the performance pays homage to Amália Rodrigues, one of Portugal's illustrious fado artists. The final part of the show is dedicated to the contemporary era, exploring the fusion of fado with new contexts, diverse audiences, and evolving musical styles.

As a delightful bonus, your ticket to this fado spectacle includes a glass of port wine. Cheers! Or shall we say, saúde!
